To the admistrators of SaveTulaneEngineering.org:

Without disclosing the contents of the information and violating your promise, please elaborate further on what you meant on your January 30th post, when you stated, "We have been unable to disclose information we have received in confidence."

Thank you.

We have received timelines of events (meetings, deadlines, etc.) that are being worked on behind the scenes. Alumni, Faculty, Corporations, and Students have all come together to pressure the administration. We know some of the specifics about these efforts, but we are unable to release details. The source(s) of this information wish to remain anonymous, but we feel that we can trust them. As dates of events approach we will make you aware of them.

We have learned that here are many ways to pressure the administration. (1) Faculty can protest their termination through two different ways: internally through the appeals process, or they can sue the school. The second option could, and may well be used as a last resort. (2) Appeals and letters sent to the Board of Administrators on behalf of students and alumni.

Our plan is to appeal directly to the Board of Administrators. As such, we have received some, if not all, of the contact information for the Board of Administrators. Some of this information are their personal address. Therefore, we are unable to release how and what specifically that aspect of the information is. We hope to get the exact (yet still general) financial numbers for each department. We feel we can successfully argue that this decision could not possibly have been financial. We just need the hard numbers to back us up.

We are requesting that persons in each department get the information from their department chairs, and others, about the financial and ‘world-class’ status of their respective department.

First, I applaud your dedication and thoughtful approach to this issue. As a board of trustee of a public educational institution for the last 11years, you are absolutely right to bring as much pressure to bear on the Board of Administrators of the University. President Cowen works for them and while they clearly supported his plan, that support is based on the information they had at the time the decision was made. If additional information puts in doubt the appropriateness of this plan, they can be influenced to change or modify it. I don't want to mislead you to believe that this happens regularly and is an easy task, but it is possible. Keep up your extraordinary efforts!

The Board had to reverse Scott once already on athletics a couple of years back. I believe if they reverse him again they will have to reverse him out the door. Under the circumstances they will probably be extremely reluctant to do that unless he truly becomes an embarrassment. He has many very strong supporters who will go after anyone who criticizes him tooth and nail. Those supporters have succeeded in intimidating many critics.

One thing is for sure though. The school doesn't need enemies at this point in its history. If the actions of the administration are increasing that number rather than decreasing it there will be someone on the board who will call for change.
