Here is an article appearing today on cnn online. It is mostly focusing on public service: http://www.cnn.com/2006/EDUCATION/02/01/katrina.colleges.ap/index.html
Quote: | For engineering students, the mechanics of pumps and levees has never been more important. |
The article mentions in parentheses later that Tulane eliminated some engineering; it almost seemed like an afterthought. Like - "They did? Well we better note that in the article." _________________ -- Beth (McArdle) Allen E'85 |

Look at how much positive press Loyola got for doing CONSTRUCTIVE things to help the city, not cut back.

That article also emphasized how Loyola declined to make public service mandatory. But, Tulane did. It looks like, well we can expect PS from Loyola, but in order to look "good", Cowen has to require it Please DO NOT Take this as a criticism of how willing Tulane people are to help - I know you all are. Its just the slant on the article - and I see it as a stab at Cowen, not at the students. _________________ -- Beth (McArdle) Allen E'85 |

Actually making community service mandatory doesn't surprise me - they've been trying to do that since the late 80's. |
