All accomplishments in Environmental Engineering go here. Please keep it objective information we can use. Opinions won't win an argument. _________________ - Justin Mikowski

"Formerly the College of Technology at Tulane University, the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering has consistently played a key role in the development of the City of New Orleans. The city's constant struggle against deteriorating wetlands and rising river waters have given our faculty real-life challenges to overcome.
The contributions by our engineers, in conjunction with the city, Army Corps of Engineers and Tulane's Health Science Center, can be seen in the city's drainage and canal system, levee system and coastal preservation systems as well as our raised interstates and spillways.
These accomplishments and more are catalogued in Robert Bruce's work, "Engineering A Century (1894 - 1994)."

"Engineering classes are taught by experienced professors who emphasize both hands-on, practical experiences as well as appreciation of the fundamental natural processes and laws which underlie engineering practice. A major strength of the department is close contact between students and faculty.
The development of communication skills and design skills in a collaborative environment are important elements of the curriculum. The annual concrete canoe and steel bridge competitions are examples of team-building exercises for the students. Undergraduates are also frequently offered the opportunity to participate in faculty-led research projects."

Glen Boyd had a research project that was testing water quality around town. It showed that on campus actually had the highest rates of hormones in the water than any other place in the city. Speculation of why follows the flow of hormones in consumed food and flushed prescriptions. Hormone consumption is only recently being linked to premature aging in females, as well as other developmental problems in humans. _________________ Civil '03 |
