Our university will be an academic embarrasment. Even LOYOLA has a CompSci department (it's joined with their math department). Every university worth it's salt has a CompSci program. This is the 21st century and they're acting like it's the 19th.

Yeah, not having computer science will hurt the schools math and science programs. Kids in those majors will still need to know how to program, but lets hope for their sake they can teach it to themselves.

I agree, the university needs a computer science program.

In the vein of debate, what might they use as a counter argument? While I would not agree with such a rebuttal, one rebuttal might be that they will have MIS program.

Also, as a computer science professional, I would encourage you to expand your scope of need to "basic software engineering principles and programming". As a graduate of the computer science program, I know that is what truly made the difference in my success. It is the application of basic software engineering principles. Throughout the entire program, Tulane professors demanded us to follow good practices. That is the difference between software engineers and programmers

Programs that instill that into their students are World Class programs. That is why I am so dismayed at this. When I compare my Tulane Engineering experience to my professional peers, I was much more prepared for this than they were. We need this World Class program!
