This news article seems to suggest that this plan was being considered for some time. This outrages me beyond belief. Was the future of Tulane University secured on the backs of its engineering students? It would appear so.
One board member, Daryl Berger likes the whole plan! Would you repeat that again Mr. Berger? I feel that this man, and the entire board in general, did not fully understand the ramifications of its actions. Berger did not consider the intense disruption this would have among its engineering students, faculty and staff. In Tulane’s time of crisis, why would the board make things more difficult, if not impossible for its engineering student body?
Philip Greer, chair-elect of the Board of Administrators, says, “What we’ve done is basically deal with the financial problems the university faces as a result of Katrina…. and provide an incredible educational opportunity for our students in the 21st century.” In my opinion, this is not what the ‘board’ did. They sacrificed the education of its engineers as a quick fix for the financial crisis Tulane is in. Quick fixes will not help Tulane in the long run. We need long-term solutions that make sense for everyone involved.
Post on the forums if you find this outrageous as well. |
