The president of the university informed the media last week that the number of students applying for next years freshman class is up by 20%
http://www.neworleanscitybusiness.com/viewStory.cfm?recID=14385
He is also on record as saying he expects to downsize incoming classes and maintain or increase student quality in the post-Katrina environment. Meanwhile the school has just extended the application deadline for the new freshman class from Dec 31 to January 31 (See Tulane's admission website http://www.tulane.edu/%7Eadmiss/admission/index.html).
Does anybody besides me see a disjunct here? Why if applications are up and the incoming class size to be reduced is the school extending the application deadline? Is yield down? Is the quality of applications down? Is somebody prevaricating? Something is not right with this picture and whatever it is will probably affect the perceived value of your degree.
The marketplace may be responding to Scott's "Bold Renwal Plan" or as I like to call it BuRP*.
*If it sounds like a BuRP and smells like a BuRP it probably is a BuRP or Scott had red beans for lunch again. |
