Cowen said the Renewal Plan was irrovocable.
Actually, because the Renewal Plan requires alterations in the constitution of the university, the Renewal Plan hasn't technically been passed yet. The Board is meeting on March 17th to pass the alteration to the constitution. I'd put a healthy wager that there are at least a few board members who won't be so keen on dumping Newcomb and engineering.
Stop the Board from voting for the amendments, stop the whole Renewal Plan. Change the mind of the board by March 17th, stop the plan. It's that simple.
I'll post more on this development soon. _________________ Clay Kirby

Not a frequent poster here, but I pay very close attention. Wanted to make a specific amendment to your language -- it's not the constitution of the university that's relevant. It's the Charter and Bylaws of the Tulane Educational Fund, Inc. that are the legal documents which must be amended. There are a number of amendments from the Oct. 2005 version which must be enacted in order for the RP to be valid and legal -- some include the clauses and prior amendments which address both engineering and Newcomb issues. There are semantic games which can (and surely will) be played out with the language that exists in those documents.
There is, of course, the possibility that such amendments to the charter and bylaws (which constitute the documentation which establishes the legal entity 'Tulane Educational Fund, Inc.' in the state of Louisiana) were passed in December, but anecdotal evidence indicates that they were not, in fact, passed in December 2005.
But in the end, you are correct: unless further action is taken by the BOA, the RP cannot be enacted in a fully legal fashion. 3/15-17 are critical dates for supporters of Engineering and Newcomb alike.
I am behind -- please forgive. _________________ 3rd gen Newcomb girl

Several sources close to the Board have phrased the December vote as a "provisional" vote.
Hmm... Remember this?
"
Ggreen1: How much money will it take to save the engineering programs?
President Cowen: The decision, with respect to the engineering programs being phased out, was both strategic and a financial. It is not a question of how much money, at this stage, would save the school. In fact, we have already notified students applying for next year that the school will be changed and therefore the decision has been implemented and is final.
