Here’s What We Have Done
December 11th, 2005

1) Gathered over 1400 signatures on the Petition.
2) E-mailed David Filo, Times-Picayune, USA Today, NBC News, FOX News, CBS, NOLA.com, Habitat for Humanity, and the Bill & Melinda Gates foundation.
3) Sent e-mails, with your help, to our United States Senators and Representatives.
4) Gathered basic statistics regarding Tulane Engineering and Tulane at large.

Here is what we are considering:

1) Start a Non-Profit organization so that donations can be made to help Save Tulane Engineering.
2) T-Shirt drives to help gain support, both physical and monetary for our cause. If any of you would like to design a t-shirt. Please feel free.
3) Buttons/Stickers/Fliers. We have had a few people offer to put up posters. Please print of the poster we have made, however basic, so that you can get the physical support out there we so desperately need.
4) E-mail or talk to Dr. Cowen and his board of directors. (Please be nice) We need to show them that we will not be left unheard and that we disagree with their choices.

We know that a physical presence on campus will be required once we return to Tulane. We will be planning some sort of meeting for the first week we all return. We’ll let you know more once we know more. Justin Mikowski and myself will be in Dr. Cowen’s Office December 31st to speak with him. We also need you to help us inform the general public about this catastrophe. Please send e-mails to anyone who will listen. It can be your local newspaper, congressmen, TV news etc. If at all possible, please show up in person to talk to these people of importance. A face means more to them than 1000 e-mails.

We also need people to help find statistics regarding Tulane. Only a few of you have stepped up. E-mail your respective department heads, deans, and alumni. We would like a summary of the statistics you find about Tulane Engineering as well as Tulane at large, and their sources, if possible. We need to gain a base of sound statistics on which to mount a logical attack. Dr. Cowen has every statistic imaginable about Tulane. We need to counter his statistics as well as possible.

We know this is a busy time, as we all have finals coming up. But we need to keep on this. It is in everyone’s best interest that Engineering remains a part of Tulane University. Please help us in any way you can. If you have any suggestions, please post them in the forum.

–Will Clarkson

I suggest also contacting Mayor Nagin. Remember, he wants to try to attract more high tech industry to New Orleans. He has an MBA from Tulane.
