Prof. Cronvich made a significant contribution to the history of Tulane and the Engineering School. It is ironic he died in the same month the Electrical Engineering Department he helped build will cease to exists. Below is his obituary from the TP:

CRONVICH James Anthony Cronvich, born October 26, 1914, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the age of 92. Beloved husband of Mary Silberberg Cronvich. Father of Mary Claire ""Mamie'' Hebert, James T. (Lana), Paul G. (Joy) , George V. (Nancy) and Stephen J. (Lisa) Cronvich. Brother of Marie Louise Derbes, the late Lester L. and Alwynn J. Cronvich. Also survived by 14 grandchildren. A native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Harahan, LA for 56 years. Emeritus Professor of Electrical Engineering at Tulane University. A graduate of Jesuit High School, Tulane University (B.S and M.S.) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (S.M.), Prof. Cronvich joined the Electrical Engineering faculty at Tulane in 1938 and served as Department Head from 1956 to 1980. In his 44-year teaching career, he introduced and taught the first courses at Tulane in Network Theory and Synthesis, Microwaves, Servomechanisms, Control Systems, and Electronic Instrumentation. He was also an Adjunct Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Tulane School of Medicine, where he worked for 40 years with Dr. George Burch in cardiovascular research and served as Assistant Editor of the American Heart Journal. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi; past chairman of the New Orleans sections of both the American Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers; a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers; and a Ham radio operator (W5FZW). A parishioner of St. Rita Parish (Harahan), he served over the years as President of the Holy Name Society, member of the Board of Education, and CCD teacher. Relatives, former students and Tulane staff, and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Friday, June 15, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Rita Church, 7118 Jefferson Highway, Harahan, LA. Visitation in Church from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time. Interment in Garden of Memories will be private. Masses or donations to Jesuit High School or Tulane University preferred.
